Vodacom's Player 23

We've all been amused of late by Vodacom's Player 23 advert featuring Jan who is in fact, Malcom Ferreira, a comedian, actor and impersonator. He has now become so popular that people are recognising him everywhere as the now famous rugby supporter!Comment on this blog post
Vodacom's agency explain the reason for the Player 23 concept is to bring the fans closer to the game. They figured the closest a fan can be to rugby is to be a part of the team so they made him player 23. Jan isn't the only player 23 - he is the face behind all passionate, die-hard rugby supporters.
Our dear Jan eats, sleeps and dreams rugby and we can tell by the way he is portrayed in Vodacom's adverts. For a glimpse into Player 23's world, see the video below. Another "Cracker" video to enjoy!

Nando's legendary adverts

Nando's burst onto the scenes in South Africa with contravercial, heavily debated advertisements which ultimately placed them on the map and contributed to their great success.Comment on this blog post
They speak in the "slang" of the country they're advertising in and make sure that they don't become part of the clutter. After all, their successful advertising has shown that satirical communication is best served locally and best consumed with an open mind!
Cracker's "Great Ads" channel features many of their award winning adverts, one of which you can view below. For the other hilarious ads, search "Nandos" in the search box. ENJOY - have a laugh!

Wrecked Airbus 340-600
Thursday, 14th May 2009 17:44pm
videofreak
UNCONFIRMED EXPLANATION: The brand spanking new Airbus 340-600 sat in its hangar in Toulouse, France without a single hour of airtime. Enter the flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups, prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area.Comment on this blog post
Then they took all four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not having read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 really is. The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had all 4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers thought they were trying to take off but the aircraft had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc.) Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm. This fooled the aircraft into thinking it was in the air. The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward. The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on.
Not one member of the seven-man crew was bright enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $200 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.
The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown for there has been a news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.

The prestigious 4-star, Big 5 Aquila Private Game Reserve, just outside Cape Town, was nominated as a finalist in the Luxury Game Lodge category at the World Luxury Hotel Awards at a prestigious black tie gala event towards the end of last year in Cape Town.Comment on this blog post
States owner and founder of Aquila Private Game Reserve, Searl Derman: “It’s a great honour to know that we’ve been recognised by the industry not only for our exceptional facilities and service excellence and unique Big 5 educational experience but also acknowledged for our various conservation and community upliftment initiatives.”
Derman recently hit the international media spotlight when he learnt of the conservation wildlife emergency on Robben Island and called in his specialist staff from the Animal Rehabilitation Centre (ARC), a non-profit organisation based at Aquila Private Game Reserve, dedicated to the conservation of endangered species and involved in various research projects, funded by Aquila.
Within hours Derman had arranged with the islands management to ferry over vital food that he purchased at his own expense such as game licks, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and highly concentrated vitamin and molasses concentrates for the starving fallow deer.
The 300 or so fallow deer on Robben Island are now in a much healthier condition after receiving the weekly supplementary feeding to the value of over R300 000 donated by Derman throughout the winter and the second phase of the rehabilitation process is due to commence. -
World Cup 2010

The "tired" question we often hear is whether we're ready for the World Cup... After much researching, the answer appears to be a profound YES. Of course we are!Comment on this blog post
As of February 2009, the stadiums’ states of completion are as follows:
* Green Point Stadium (Cape Town) 50%
* Soccer City Stadium (Johannesburg) 67%
* Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban) 60%
* Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane) 60%
* Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (PE) 70%
* Mbombela Stadium (Nelspruit) 60%
According to Gillian Saunders, a director at Grant Thornton, South Africa is expected to host around 480,000 tourists who will spend around R8,5 billion while in the country! Hotels are springing up, Bed and Breakfasts are ready and waiting for bookings, the Gautrain and Bus Systems are also well on track - all extremely positive! In addition, according to Grant Thornton, based on previous host cities' experiences, South Africa should see that after the World Cup, between 130,000 and 290,000 tourists will visit the country between 2011 and 2015. Great news all round!
